3. Chargers beat themselves for the third-straight weekend

For the third weekend in-a-row, the Chargers lost a football game they should have won. Yes, starting 0-3 isn’t the best case-scenario, but losing two of those games to the better teams in the AFC West? That’s something Los Angeles may not be able to come back from in 2017.

More from NFL Spin Zone

The frustrating thing about Sunday’s game against the Chiefs was that the Chargers out-performed them in almost every statistical category. Heck, Kansas City even had well over 100 penalty yards. Needless to say, Los Angeles did everything they had to do to lose again this weekend.

To give an example of the many ways the Chargers out-performed the Chiefs on Sunday, take a look at these stats below:

  • First Downs: Kansas City 16, Los Angeles 24
  • Total Yards: Kansas City 311, Los Angeles 330
  • Passing Yards: Kansas City 122, Los Angeles 226
  • Penalties: Kansas City 13-122, Los Angeles 8-61

Just by taking a look at those key numbers from Sunday’s match-up, one would assume that the Chargers did everything they needed to do in order to come out with a victory. However, there is one stat that isn’t mentioned above — that’s right, it’s turnovers.

Three total turnovers for Los Angeles on Sunday ultimately cost them 17 points in a game where they lost by 14. Not to mention, the Chiefs’ last touchdown came on a 69-yard Kareem Hunt touchdown when it was only a one-score game. If you want to point a finger somewhere after this loss, that’s exactly where.
