3. To win Jets need to establish the run

The Jets running game was average against the Patriots. They had a 2-1 pass-to-run ratio. Josh McCown threw the ball 47 times, and they ran it 24. That’s not a recipe for success.

These Jets need to get more production from their ground game if they want to consistently win. The Bilal Powell injury may have been a huge factor in this game, because they didn’t really have any power running backs in this game, and it showed.

New England did a great job at the point of attack and shut down the run from the get go. The offensive line needs to get better push up front and open the holes for the runners to get to the second and third levels. The Jets runners also need to be more patient and allow the offensive line to open the holes at times too.

Despite McCown passing for 300 yards in the game, the Jets can’t rely on that to win this season. They need their running backs to gain more than 3.0 yards per carry and help the passing game, because play action doesn’t work unless you can run the football. The Jets can’t pass 47 times and run 24 and expect to win, period.
