3. Second half scoring issues

There are two problems with the sports media today. It’s a what have you done for me lately culture. Also, it’s filled with ADD personalities. The attention spans are as such that people tend to look at what they just saw at the end of the game, rather than look at the whole game and dissect it.

Going into the game with Atlanta, the talk was about the numbers of Josh McCown in the fourth quarter. (We are again pinning it all the quarterback.) There’s one problem with that. It’s looking at the game on a micro level rather than a macro one. The fourth quarters this season have been tough for the Jets, but we can say the same about the third. The third quarter hasn’t been exactly kind to the Jets either.

In two of the last three games, the Jets have been held scoreless in the third quarter. In the game against the Falcons, they had three third-quarter drives. They gained 55 total yards on the three drives, punted twice, and missed a field goal on the third.

While their fourth quarters have been bad, their third quarters haven’t been much better. They need to come out of the locker room stronger, otherwise they pin their hopes completely on the fourth quarter, and they can’t win that way.
