3. It may be time for the young quarterbacks to play

Jets fans have been clamoring to see either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. Fans are resigned to the fact that the season is over, and they want to see if the young quarterbacks can be something to hang their hats on.

Even though it’s not in the manner fans wanted, they’re going to get their wish. With the previously mentioned injury, McCown will likely miss some time. Since it’s late in the season, it may not make sense to go back to McCown, especially if they don’t see a scenario where they bring him back in 2018.

The next man up will likely be Petty. He was thrown into the fire on Sunday, and he didn’t do well, but that can be expected in the scenario he was put in today. Let’s see how he does with a week of practice with the number ones.

Hackenberg will likely be the backup quarterback, and we may get to see him in action too. In a lot of fans’ minds, it will be “finally.” That said, the expectations do need to be kept reasonable, but at least one may get the shot the fans have wanted for a long time. Now Petty will get to earn his spot.
