The Giants offensive line has been awful this season, a big reason for Eli Manning’s (and the team’s) overall struggles. Although most would point to Ereck Flowers as the biggest sore thumb, Bobby Hart may actually be the guy who gets the ax in 2018.

After showing some upside early in his NFL career, Hart has steadily declined. Based on Pro Football Focus Edge grades, he’s among the worst offensive tackles in the league this year. Heading into Week 16, he’s earned the fourth-worst grade among all tackles, ranking 78th out of 81 qualified players.

Furthermore, the Giants appear to like Chad Wheeler more moving forward. Although the undrafted rookie has been similarly bad this season, he appears to have a brighter future in the Big Apple. Given some time and coaching, he could develop into a solid contributor along the New York front five.

Letting Hart go would only incur $17,898 in dead cap space. It’s a small price to pay to get rid of a player who simply isn’t living up to expectations. Then, the Giants can either place the burden on Wheeler’s shoulders or look for another option via free agency or the 2018 NFL Draft.

Hart was the starter at the beginning of the season, but has watched his career outlook go down the drain. That’ll lead to his release in the coming months.
