S Jordan Dangerfield

It’s been a good run for Jordan Dangerfield, a former undrafted free agent who won his way into the NFL with strong special teams play. Unfortunately, after missing all of the 2017 campaign due to injury, 2018 may not be much of an improvement.

The Steelers aren’t necessarily loaded at safety, but they have plenty of capable backups already on the roster. Between rookies Terrell Edmunds and Marcus Allen, and veteran Nat Berhe, there figures to be plenty of competition for the snaps behind Morgan Burnett and Sean Davis. Heck, Edmunds could even push Davis for the starting gig.

Either way, there’s plenty of talent and only so many roster spots to go around. While Dangerfield is a proven special teams commodity, he’s coming off a lost season. On top of that, he’s really only had one season of extended playing time. He was forced into action due to injuries in 2016, and was a subpar performer.

Still, he’ll get a shot to prove his worth during training camp. However, with Berhe also capable of contributing on special teams and offering more on-field talent, I think the 2014 fifth-round pick gets the nod over Dangerfield.
