2. Lorenzo Carter, EDGE

One of the things that made the Giants so dangerous on defense in 2016 was their edge rushing duo of Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul. The two running after quarterbacks made life hell for signal callers.

This offseason, the team moved on from JPP, shipping him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One reason was their move to a 3-4 defense where Pierre-Paul wasn’t seen as a great fit. Someone who could step up in his spot and be a great fit in this defense is rookie Lorenzo Carter.

Picked at No. 66 overall in the third-round, Carter has proven to be a force on the edge. While playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, Carter played the same outside linebacker position the Giants will want him to man.

He was touted as a player with high potential to rush the passer but showed up in all phases of the game for the Dawgs. He totaled 62 tackles in his senior season with 4.5 sacks. He’s long and a bit lengthy, but can move all over the field.

In New York, he won’t be the primary pass rusher and because of that, he may make a lot more noise than expected. With players like Vernon and Damon Harrison, offensive linemen will often be preoccupied and that could lead to Carter making a lot of splash plays for the G-Men.
