QB2 battle is at a stalemate

When the Green Bay Packers traded for Cleveland Browns quarterback, Deshone Kizer, a battle for the primary backup quarterback spot was set.

Brett Hundley struggled when he was forced to play after Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone in October of 2017. The addition made sense even if the Packers traded away their “best” cornerback in the process.

It was no surprise to see Hundley start the game. He has the experience in this system and is the most likely candidate to be the QB2 come the regular season. He finished with 108 yards, one touchdown, and one interception (which wasn’t his fault.)

His best play of the night was a beautiful Aaron Rodgers-esque throw to Davante Adams.

Kizer had a pretty good night as well. Although, finding the end zone was a bit difficult for him on a couple of occasions. At one point inside the Titans five-yard line Kizer threw six straight incomplete passes.

His arm looks great though. Kizer was able to find Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a beautiful pass in the third quarter.

He needs to be able to finish off drives when he is called upon or he won’t be a successful NFL quarterback.

Undrafted free agent Tim Boyle may have stolen the show tonight though. Although his chances of making the active roster are slim to none, he may have a job elsewhere in the NFL after his first preseason game.

He had a pair of touchdowns that were absolutely amazing, including one to Wisconsin-Whitewater alum, Jake Kumerow, that was easily the best play of the night. Overall, the backup QB race is still up for grabs after week one, but we now know what the backups are capable of going forward.
