NFL 2018: One roster cut each team should make, but won’t
By Dan Parzych
Arizona Cardinals: Sam Bradford
Losing Carson Palmer to retirement was a tough adjustment for the Arizona Cardinals this offseason since the team was already facing pressure to make a run at the playoffs after missing out in each of the last two seasons. And if the Cardinals knew in advance they would be fortunate enough to land UCLA’s Josh Rosen during this year’s draft, it’s tough not to wonder if the hefty deal for Sam Bradford still would have gone down in free agency.
For a player that has struggled to stay healthy for most of his career along with never appearing in the playoffs, the decision to pay Bradford $20 million for one season seemed a bit ridiculous on Arizona’s end. Even if the argument can be made that Bradford was the best option at the time since it would be a shame to see the talent on the Cardinals’ offense go to waste, the former No. 1 pick just doesn’t seem worth all of that money.
Cutting Bradford to allow Rosen to start as a rookie would only result in Arizona throwing a ton of money away over that insane contract they were willing to give their short-term answer at quarterback. In other words, the Cardinals are basically stuck with Bradford, and if he ends up being a disappointment or getting hurt, it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow when looking at all of that money he’s still going to make.
