Chicago Bears: 5 Reasons they’ll make the playoffs in 2018
The Chicago Bears have the right head coach in place
John Fox has done some good things in football. He took teams to the Super Bowl in two different conferences (2003 Carolina Panthers and 2013 Denver Broncos). His years in Chicago were anything but good, however.
Under Fox, the Bears had a 14-34 record. His philosophy of having a run-first offensive system is outdated in today’s NFL. The league is pass-happy. The name of the game is to get yards in big chunks and not get three yards in a cloud of dust.

The Bears fired Fox after the 2017 and hired Nagy. Nagy is a great offensive-minded coach. Under his tutelage, Alex Smith had the best year of his career. Also, the Kansas City Chiefs had a top-five offense.
When Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took over play-calling, the team struggled. They only took off again once Nagy took over again. The Bears hope Nagy can do the same for Trubisky and the Bears offense.
In addition to the play-calling, Nagy is creating a new atmosphere at Halas Hall. Even before playing one snap, there is a new winning attitude around the team. He demands accountability and he knows it comes from the top.
Two weeks ago Nagy caused an uproar when he decided to sit his key players in the third game of the preseason. Usually, coaches use their starters and key players extended time. Fans and media alike criticized Nagy and some acted like the season was on the brink. It was the first and seemingly only thing reporters wanted to talk about after the game.
Nagy was upfront with the reporters, taking full ownership of the decision. When a handler tried to cut the question session, Nagy waved him off and said he’d take as many questions as they wanted. That was quite a departure from Fox. It felt like pulling teeth just trying to get him to say the sky was blue.
Nagy got the players buying into his system early. Part of that is because of his track record and part of it is how he is with his players. The Chiefs players who played under Nagy all love the work he did with them. You can see that the Bears players are doing the same.
This is the kind of coach the Chicago Bears need. He showed this was his team and he has a plan on getting the team back on track. The players know he’s boss and will run through brick walls for him.
