3. Tavon Austin

The Cowboys signed Tavon Austin this offseason, and on Sunday night he made his presence known during the first drive of the game when he raced past the Giants defense and caught a 64-yard reception for a touchdown. Later in the game, he had a carry on a reverse play by the Cowboys that went for 15 yards.

After totaling 79 yards on those two plays, the Cowboys didn’t run Austin any more in the game, and the wide receiver was targeted a total of two times, making both receptions for 79 yards.

Even with the success of Austin early in the game, the Cowboys didn’t go back to him, but they should have. Austin isn’t the best wide receiver on the roster, but they really need to open up the field and go toward his direction more often.

Austin proved he can bring the Cowboys success, but even with a total of two targets in two game (Austin wasn’t targeted at all in Week 1), he really began to show his value to the offense. Dak Prescott needs to look to Austin’s direction more (either in the pass or rushing game), and the Cowboys need to game plan more with Austin in mind.
