Quarterbacks

Sam Darnold vs. Indianapolis

2018 stats: 83/149 (55.7%), 1,066 yards, 7 TD, 6 INT
ESPN Ownership: 5.5 percent

Sam Darnold’s appeal isn’t the best, and if you have other options, I’d go that way. Yet if you’re in a deep league or have Drew Brees/Matthew Stafford on bye, Darnold this week isn’t a bad one-week rental.

More from NFL Spin Zone

After carving up Denver’s defense for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns, Darnold will have the opportunity to face a Colts defense that ranks 28th in the league in passing yards allowed per game, tallying nearly 300 to opposing quarterbacks. With the emerging Isaiah Crowell on the ground, Indy will have to respect the Jets on the ground, further helping the rookie quarterback.

If Darnold can replicate his success against what is considered one of the worst pass defenses in the league, he presents an interesting waiver-wire stream if needed.

Jameis Winston at Atlanta

2018 stats: 16/20 (80%), 145 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
ESPN Ownership: 12.5 percent

After the Buccaneers’ Fitzmagic ran out, Jameis Winston was inserted into the lineup at halftime in Chicago following a three-game suspension and managed to move the ball with some success against one of the league’s best defenses. Winston by no means is a QB1, but we’ve seen in the past what he is capable of, and that’s putting up numbers when healthy options are around him.

Winston and the Bucs will travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons following a bye week. Atlanta, whose secondary has been decimated by injuries all season, have been a great play for opposing fantasy quarterbacks. It will remain to be seen if Jameis can guide the Buccaneers to a victory off a bye-week, yet with Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson and a hopefully active O.J. Howard, Winston should at minimum be able to rescue a solid fantasy day and eat a W for your team.
