1. San Francisco 49ers: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston

The San Francisco 49ers have a few of the most important pieces on their roster already. Last year, they added the most important when they brought quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo over on a deadline deal. Then this offseason, they signed running back Jerick McKinnon.

Garoppolo led them to five-straight wins to end 2017 and having a weapon like McKinnon — who can help in the run and pass game — was supposed to make things even easier for head coach Kyle Shanahan to move the ball.

Luck was not in their favor, as both these players were lost for the season with torn ACLs. The result has been a terrible start to the season, although they did recently hang with the Green Bay Packers in prime-time. It wasn’t the norm seeing them in a shootout, but Shanahan is a great offensive mind so it shouldn’t be too surprising.

Here, they want to get more weapons on offense for Jimmy G and Shanahan to work with, but no one on the offensive side of the ball really stands out as worthy of the No. 1 pick. That means if San Francisco ends up here, they could very well trade out of the spot. We won’t predict trades, so instead, they go with Ed Oliver out of Houston.

The 49ers have a strong D-line, but there’s a spot for Oliver. He’s a game-changer that can keep the offense in games even when Jimmy G isn’t on fire. That sometimes helps a quarterback as much as a new offensive weapon.
