Round 1: Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

As with any team with a young quarterback, protecting him is direly important. Dion Dawkins currently plays left tackle and he’s nothing to scoff at. However, he’s regressed in pass protection from his play as a rookie in 2017. According to Pro Football Focus’ post-Week 9 offensive line rankings, he’s given up more sacks in the first nine weeks of the 2018 season than he had as a rookie.

"“[Dawkins] already allowed more sacks (5) than he did all of last season (3), and his 61.9 overall grade is a big step back.”"

Unfortunately, the inconsistency in pass protection was a knock against him coming out of Temple. Still, the rest of the Bills offensive lineman haven’t done anything noteworthy — other than playing badly, of course. So, drafting some immediate help would…well, help.

Alabama tackle Jonah Williams is a rare prospect from the Crimson Tide, starting since his freshman season. He began his career as a right tackle before taking over for the predecessor at left tackle Cam Robinson (Jaguars).

The 6-5, 300-plus-pounder has all the tools to play tackle in the NFL. He’s a ready-made prospect with great footwork and hand placement. Against the pass is where he shines with a great kick back, wide base, patience and a powerful punch.

As a Bill, he could play left tackle and kick Dawkins inside where he’s a more natural fit. This would allow the Bills to have a solid lineup, especially on the left side. Plus, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll knows how what Williams is capable of from his time spent coaching Williams at Alabama (2017).
