Chicago Bears: Latest win breaks recent team trends
The Bears have personality
The Chicago Bears are one of the charter members of the NFL. Because of that, the team doesn’t exactly have the reputation of allowing colorful players. Sure, there have been a few colorful players here and there, but the only time we’ve really seen a colorful Bears team was the 1985 championship team.
This team is different. Along with their winning, they’re having fun. They aren’t showing up the other team, but they’re out there showing emotion with each touchdown, big play, or even just a first down.
One of the big surprises from the Bears was drafting wide receiver Anthony Miller. Miller is the epitome of this new, fun-filled bunch. He thinks of himself as the best player on the field. When he makes a big catch, he makes sure the entire stadium knows. He brings excitement every time he plays.

In addition to Miller, the Bears have Prince Amukamara, Eddie Jackson, and Tarik Cohen, among others, who are players fans love to watch. Even Trubisky is starting to get into the act, even though he has a lot of pressure and criticism thrown his way.
I know teams like to use the cliche “We are like a family” to describe their players. Most of the time it isn’t really true. This is one of the teams that the term fits. These guys are buying into what the coaches are selling, and they have each other’s backs.
Look at Cody Parkey, for example. In Week 10, he missed four kicks (extra points and field goals), continually hitting the goal post. Leading up to their Week 11 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, a battle for first place in the NFC North, Parkey had a lot of pressure to make his kicks. He made all three of his field goals and his points were a big reason for the victory. After, the team celebrated in the locker room and jumped on Parkey as if he won the Super Bowl for them. That’s how you pick up your teammate.
The Bears’ celebrations after touchdowns and interceptions are just beautiful. They’ve coordinated some very good ones, and they’re going viral. After Kyle Fuller intercepted a Matthew Stafford pass late in the fourth quarter that helped win the game, the players got together and did a Motown-esque celebration in honor of being in Detroit. Amukamara played the role of lead singer. That celebration trended on Twitter, and it created a #bearssingtoanything. This is one of the best things out there for fans to enjoy.
Also, let’s not forget the new #CLUBDUB. It’s the celebration the Bears have after victories. It’s similar to what the Chicago Cubs do during baseball season.
All of this swag comes from their leader, head coach Matt Nagy. He is all energy, running down the sideline trying to keep up with a Bears getting to the end zone. He celebrates as hard as the players after wins. He’s letting the players show their personalities. He isn’t like former coach Mike Ditka. Ditka was the personification of intensity on the sidelines.
Also, Nagy isn’t like Lovie Smith, a stoic presence who had the same expression, win or lose. He certainly isn’t like John Fox, who at times looked confused. And let’s not compare him to Marc Trestman. Nagy can just about tell his players to do anything on the field and they’ll do it. They bought into his plan like they are a part of a cult.
This is not your father’s or grandfather’s Chicago Bears. This is a new school team for a new school league.
