5. Cowboys defense will hold Saints under 28 points

No one is mistaking the New Orleans Saints for anything short of one of the best offenses in the NFL this season. They’ve been scoring seemingly at will for much of the year and currently lead the league in scoring, averaging an incredible 37.2 points per game. In a season where there are a litany of offenses that are putting up points in bunches, the Saints have been the most prolific to this point.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Through their first 11 games of the season, the Saints have only scored fewer than 30 points in two contests to this point in the season. What’s more, they’ve put up 40 or more points on five different occasions throughout this season. Thus, you’d think that trend would continue as they’re playing in primetime and, of course, have not been slowed down much at all this season.

However, the Dallas Cowboys defense might be one of the best-kept secrets in the NFL this season. The Dallas defense has not allowed more than 28 points in any game this season. What’s more, they’ve been able to hold opponents to 20 or fewer points in seven of their 11 games to this point entering Week 13. The Cowboys don’t play perfect defense, but they have playmakers and athleticism, especially in the red zone, to bend-not-break perfectly.

That’s what I think happens in this game. I think the Cowboys are able to hold the Saints in check on the scoreboard. There’s no completely stifling New Orleans from moving the ball, but they can limit the scoring and hold the Saints to field goals. Ultimately, that can happen in this matchup and Dallas’ defense will give the offense an opportunity to win.
