Round 1: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert hasn’t yet decided whether or not he’ll even declare for the 2019 NFL Draft, so Giants fans should be holding their breath for this one. If Herbert does declare, however, he’s nearly a lock to be throwing the football for the Giants in 2019.

It’s unlikely that any other team in the top 10 of the draft order will be looking for a quarterback, unless something catastrophic happens to the draft order before season’s end. But barring some unforeseen circumstance, Herbert will fall into New York’s lap as long as he actually declares to be part of this draft class.

Onto Herbert’s premier attributes, his 6-6, 231-pound frame makes him a promising prospect to mold into the Giants’ liking the future. Herbert is only 21, and mix of a strong arm and just enough athleticism makes him an intriguing prospect for the Giants. Coming from Oregon’s famed college-style offense, Herbert has to get better at working a pro style, but his skillset may allow for a relatively easy transition.

All in all, this is a weak quarterback class, but Herbert is clearly the best of the bunch. He’s shown the ability to be pinpoint accurate at times, but he needs to become more consistent with his flashes of greatness. In this mock, the Giants get the cog they need to make the Big Blue machine go. If they get their quarterback in the real Round 1, their offense could be lethal come 2019 and 2020.
