Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State – New York Giants
For the most part, prospect rankings all across the web unanimously have Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins as the No. 1 quarterback of the 2019 NFL Draft class. Furthermore, many draft analysts, like NFL Spin Zone’s Randy Gurzi, have Haskins married to the New York Giants in the first round. The draft slot makes total sense. As a prospect, Haskins’ skill-set ideally fits the West Coast-like system. He takes the safe, smart throw and doesn’t take risks. Moreover, Haskins needs a team with a strong running game and receivers that can run after the catch. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur runs a West Coast style team. They have a strong running game thanks to Saquon Barkley, who the team took in lieu of a quarterback at No. 2 in the 2018 draft.
At wide receiver, he has Sterling Shepard and arguably the best in the game, Odell Beckham Jr. to aid the cause. Moreover, Evan Engram is an athletic tight end that stretches the field up the seam — completing the ideal offensive group.
An added bonus is having Eli Manning as a tutor for Haskins in New York, whether it be directly or indirectly. Either way, Haskins can sit and learn from a future Hall of Fame quarterback. It’ll allow him to hone his skills and rid himself of bad habits. In 2020, the New York Giants should belong to Dwayne Haskins.
