Round 3: Charles Omenihu, DL, Texas

The Dallas Cowboys were completely pushed around up front in their final game against the Los Angeles Rams. Running backs C.J. Anderson and Todd Gurley both went over 100-yards on the ground and there were simply no answers. A huge red flag was raised after the game as members of the Rams said the Cowboys tipped their hand pre-snap, but there were more issues outside of that.

Dallas had a great season from Antwuan Woods, but there was nobody playing the three-technique that really stood out. Maliek Collins started nine games, but he also has spent the past couple of seasons working at the five-technique — which is where Woods played. The reason Collins was occupying that role was that Dallas believed in David Irving as their disruptive force on the line.

However, Irving has been dealing with off-field problems and league-imposed suspensions for two years now. In fact, this season only saw Irving on the field for two games after he played in just eight in 2017. In short, the Cowboys have to move on.

Here, they land a player who could push for time at that position as they select Texas defensive tackle Charles Omenihu. The former Longhorn flashed potential throughout his first three seasons in the NCAA before breaking out as a senior in 2010. That season, he recorded 45 tackles with 18 going for a loss. Most impressively, he registered 9.5 sacks.

Like Irving, Omenihu offers a long frame at 6-6 and 275 pounds. He’s a player still on the rise and could develop into a nice starter in the middle of the defensive line for the Cowboys.
