New York Jets: Pre-Combine 7-round 2019 mock draft
By Cory Kinnan
Round 1, Pick 3: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson
In the first volume of my Jets mock draft, the Jets picked Josh Allen out of Kentucky. However, over the past few weeks Clelin Ferrell has been generating a lot of buzz around his name, and jumps Allen here in volume two. Behind only Quinnen Williams and Nick Bosa, Ferrell becomes the third straight defensive lineman off of the board in this volume.

The 6-5 and 260-pound edge rusher finished his redshirt junior season in 2018 by dominating future first rounder Jonah Williams in the national championship game and causing the offensive lineman’s draft stock to fall. This performance along with his 11.5 sacks and 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage have Ferrell in the conversation to be a top-five pick.
Here, he becomes a top-three pick and lands with the New York Jets, a team in desperate need of an edge rusher as the team did not have a player with double digit sacks in 2018. Ferrell would come in, upgrade the defense in the Big Apple immediately, and be expected to play and contribute immediately.
He has done it on the biggest collegiate stage, and he can certainly handle New York. Heading into the Combine, he cannot do much to hurt his stock at this point, looking like a top-five lock.
