5. Joe Jackson, EDGE, Miami

As long as the Cowboys retain DeMarcus Lawrence, the defensive end position won’t be a huge need. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a need at all, however. While Lawrence has developed into one of the best pass rushers in the game, there isn’t a true right end opposite him that defenses have to worry about.

This isn’t a knock on Tyrone Crawford, who played the position well in recent seasons. The former third-round pick should be applauded for that, but he’s a much better fit inside than he is on the edge.h time due to suspension.Dallas does also have Taco Charlton, but the former first-round pick is closing in on the dreaded ‘bust’ label and has seemed to lose the confidence of the coaching staff.

On tiop of that, there’s the recent news of yet another suspension for Randy Gregory. This means the Cowboys would be smart to keep their options open in regards to the edge rushing position.

One potential fit would be Joe Jackson from Miami. What makes him intriguing for Dallas is his size — 6-5 and 258 pounds. The Cowboys staff emphasizes length at defensive end and Jackson has plenty of that. He’s also displayed great speed and athleticism and the Cowboys should keep an eye on what he does during his drills.
