5. Sign WR Devin Funchess (Carolina Panthers)

For any number of years, fair or unfair, there seemed to be a debate over who was the best wide receiver in the NFL. And numerous times, it seemingly came down to Atlanta’s Julio Jones and current Pittsburgh Steelers’ standout Antonio Brown. But it’s getting harder to ignore what Houston Texans’ star DeAndre Hopkins has done these last few seasons.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Dating back to 2015, the former Clemson standout has started played and started all but one game for Bill O’Brien’s club. He’s racked up 400 receptions for 5,425 yards and 39 scores, topping the 1,500-yard mark twice in four years. Hopkins has scored 11 or more touchdowns in all but one of those seasons and comes off a year in which he finished third in the league with 115 catches.

As usual, the Pro Bowl performer could use a little help in terms of another reliable target. Speedy Will Fuller has struggled to stay healthy. And while the club traded for Denver Broncos’ wideout Demaryius Thomas last October, he won’t be back in 2019.

In four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Devin Funchess has hauled in 161 passes for 2,233 yards and 21 scores. The former University of Michigan standout became a bigger part of the passing game these past two seasons, catching 107 balls, 12 for scores. He would make for an ideal addition opposite Hopkins.
