Dallas Cowboys: Top 3-technique tackles to target in 2019 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
This option may not seem great at first glance considering Jeffery Simmons tore his ACL while working out and could be out for the entire 2019 season. However, it still feels like a move the front office could consider as Simmons is no doubt the best possible prospect who could be on the board at No. 58.

Had Simmons not suffered the knee injury, there’s a great possibility he would be gone within the top 15 picks — which was the same situation Jaylon Smith found himself in back in 2016. That year, the Cowboys took the Notre Dame linebacker at No. 34 overall knowing he needed a full year, or more, to recover.
As for Simmons, he shouldn’t have as long of a timetable to return. Smith was dealing with nerve damage following the surgery, which extended his recovery time. While that part is true, Smith was also the second pick for Dallas that season, whereas the Bots don’t have a Round 1 pick this year.
That means taking a chance on Simmons would mean their top rookie in Week 1 of the 2019 season would be a third-round pick. The lack of a Day 1 pick makes this one seem less likely, but the temptation will be there to add a premium talent that could solidify the spot for years to come.
