Round 1, Pick 6: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

Dave Gettleman and anyone else from the Giants front office can say all they want about Elie Manning leading the team for years to come — and they could even mean it right now. Still, that could change if we see five names other than Dwayne Haskins come off the board on April 25.

As much as anyone in New York wants to believe Manning can turn back the clock, there’s no one that believes they will pass on the Ohio State product at this point. Heck, there are those who think they will even trade up to secure his services and the truth there is, they probably should do so or risk seeing someone leapfrog them for the rights to Haskins.

Either way, the Giants future looks a lot brighter with Haskins as the centerpiece rather than Manning. That’s not meant as a knock on the two-time Super Bowl winner, but just the facts considering he recently turned 38 years old and has seen his best days pass him.

As for Haskins, his best is still ahead of him. Gifted with a cannon for an arm, the redshirt sophomore put together a brilliant season for the Buckeyes in 2018. He completed 70 percent of his passes for 4,831 yards with a 50-8 touchdown-interception ratio. Putting him on the same field as Saquon Barkley gives New York an impressive offensive backfield that can make a lot of noise.
