Round 1, Pick 3: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky

For the second season in a row, the Jets have the No. 3 overall pick. It would be tempting to add another offensive playmaker to go with Sam Darnold, but the value just isn’t there at this pick. Instead, they decide to land Kentucky’s Josh Allen.

Already looking like a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen decided to return for his senior season with the Wildcats. The proved to be a financially beneficial move for him as Allen catapulted from a late day one prospect to a top-five talent.

He did this by racking up 88 tackled and 17 sacks in 2018. That sack total was more than the 14.5 he had for his career and his tackles were a personal best as well. In the end, he finished with 220 tackles, 42 for a loss and 31.5 sacks.

For the Jets, it’s been a while since they had a dominant edge rusher. Landing Allen gives them that and their defense as a whole suddenly looks much better ‚— especially when considering they’re also bringing in C.J. Mosley, the former Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker, as their prized free agent pick up on defense.

Allen may not help Darnold move the ball on offense, but this addition could keep the scores lower and allow him to feel less pressure as the starter this year.
