Dallas Cowboys: Grading every 2019 NFL Draft pick
By Randy Gurzi
Back on the clock Pick 90, the Cowboys seemed destined to take a safety — which was arguably just as big of a need as defensive tackle was. They even gave out just about every hint that they would go in this direction as they used six of their 30 allotted spaces for pre-draft visitors on the position.

There were also some talented options left, including Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Amani Hooker. Instead of going this direction, Dallas elected to go with a player they didn’t meet with, taking Connor McGovern from Penn State.
This led to some serious head-scratching because the Cowboys just spent a second-round pick on Connor Williams the season prior. However, it could indicate that they believe Williams is a better fit out wide at tackle, which is where he played collegiately.
Should that happen, La’el Collins likely leaves when his contract is up. McGovern might not play this season unless there’s an injury, but this is a good pick with the future in mind. It may not lead to immediate gratification, but it could help add depth — which was an issue last season with so many interior injuries — while also giving a team that will be heavily cap-strapped some cheaper alternatives on the line.
