3. Defense plays high enough to compete in NFC West

First off, the loss of Patrick Peterson for six games due to suspension is going to be a crushing blow for the Cardinals on defense since the cornerback is one of the best in the league at his position for a reason.

With that being said, if Arizona is looking for ways to feel positive about the situation, at least key additions such as Terrell Suggs and Jordan Hicks this offseason should put the defense in better shape from an overall perspective.

One of the main disadvantages the Cardinals have to deal with at the moment is how difficult going through rebuilding mode could be while playing in a tough NFC West division with their other three rivals.

While the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks each managed to earn a trip to the playoffs last season, the San Francisco 49ers hope a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo will help turn them into serious contenders as well in 2019.

In other words, if the Cardinals are going to have any sort of chance at competing in their division, the defense is going to have their work cut out for them facing these high-powered offenses.

This may not be the easiest task for Arizona, but also it will be necessary if they do in fact want to make the leap to becoming a Super Bowl contender.
