Green Bay Packers training camp: 5 Players with most to prove
By Joe Kipp
Notable Omission: Josh Jones, Safety
We couldn’t officially include safety Josh Jones on the list because he may be traded before the start of the season. Jones requested a trade back in May, likely stemming from the Packers investing a first-round pick in Darnell Savage Jr. and signing free agent Adrian Amos. Jones, a former second-rounder, has had a disappointing career in Green Bay thus far.

Aside from his breakout game as a rookie against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 of 2017, where he recorded 11 solo tackles and two sacks, Jones has shown little improvement over the course of his young career. Clearly, he feels he hasn’t been given a fair chance to improve as evidenced by his request for a trade.
The Packers’ depth at safety is arguably the thinnest of any position group on the team, which puts general manager Brian Gutekunst in a sticky situation regarding a possible Jones’ trade. After Savage and Amos, who figure to be the opening day starters, the Packers have Raven Greene, Tray Matthews and Mike Tyson, all inexperienced players.
It’s likely the Packers will keep Jones throughout the preseason and try to deal him before the season starts — that is if a trade were to happen. First things first, though, Jones will need to show up to training camp if he doesn’t want to be fined.
