This past season, the Dolphins saw both Ryan Tannehill and Brock Osweiler line up at quarterback. The former would start only 11 contests, hitting on 64.2 percent of his throws for 17 scores while turning over the football 13 times — including nine interceptions.

Osweiler connected on 63.5 percent of his throws, good for six touchdowns, four interceptions and one lost fumble. The duo was sacked a combined 52 times. Interesting enough, wide receivers Danny Amendola, Kenny Stills (to Tannehill) and Albert Wilson all threw touchdown passes for the Dolphins in 2018.

Now there’s a new quarterbacking tandem in town in journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen, obtained in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason. Fitzpatrick was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the previous two seasons and a year ago, played in eight games (seven starts) for the club. He threw for 2,366 yards, hit on 66.6 percent of his passes and connected for 17 touchdowns. But he also turned over the ball 13 times.

During his rookie campaign, Rosen played on the worst offense in the league. There would be a total of 19 turnovers in 14 contests (13 starts). He finished with a disappointing 55.2 completion percentage and 11 scores through the air. The 10th overall pick in 2018 was sacked 45 times.

It won’t be a surprise when both quarterbacks, who combined for 32 turnovers in 2018, start their share of games this season. The hope is that Rosen can develop into the team’s long-term answer behind center. But both of these players must do a much better job of taking care of the football.
