NFL trade rumors: 5 Players who should be traded in 2019
5. Solomon Thomas, DL, San Francisco 49ers
When the San Francisco 49ers selected Solomon Thomas with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, there were few that heavily questioned the selection. Adding a versatile defensive line to the mix seemed like a winning move for John Lynch and co. and Thomas’ profile seemed to project him towards near-immediate success.

To this point, though, Thomas has not lived up to that hype. In 30 career games with San Francisco, Thomas has managed just 4.0 sacks, 17 quarterback hits and 13 tackles for loss. Yes, his 72 total tackles for his career aren’t bad but, as the defensive front for the 49ers has gotten stronger, it feels as if Thomas has fallen behind.
This led to a report prior to the 2019 draft that Thomas could be on the trade block. While Lynch said that wasn’t accurate, the reasoning behind moving on from Thomas isn’t difficult to see. And though Nick Bosa’s training camp injury complicates things, he could very well be a trade candidate leading into the 2019 season
Top Possible Destination: New York Giants
The Giants have not been shy about making moves this offseason and that could continue here. Thomas is the perfect type of player for Big Blue to pursue at this point. He addresses a position of need on the defensive line where they are quite shallow right now and is a low-risk, high-upside commodity as a former top-five pick.
