3. Jacoby Brissett, QB

With all of the talk surrounding Andrew Luck and his mysterious calf/ankle injury that’s keeping him out of preseason action and training camp, Colts fans are rightfully concerned. Luck is a talented enough quarterback to take Indianapolis to the Super Bowl but that only happens if he’s healthy.

However, what we can’t forget is that the Colts aren’t dead in the water if Luck goes down.

Since arriving via a trade with the New England Patriots, Jacoby Brissett has stepped in for Indianapolis on a number of occasions and played quite well. He’s not Luck and no one expects him to be. But Brissett has established the fact that he’s one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL coming into the 2019 season.

We saw that on Saturday against the Browns. Despite facing pressure throughout his time on the field, the Colts backup quarterback consistently avoided sacks and made plays while looking calm at the helm of the offense. He finished the game going 8-of-10 for 100 yards and a touchdown.

At this point, it’s impossible to say what’s going to happen with Luck. Maybe the confidence that the team has spoken of regarding him starting Week 1 is for real. If it’s not, though, and he does miss regular season games, Brissett showed on Saturday that he’s ready to take over the offense and, at the very least, keep this Colts team competitive.
