5. Montgomery notches first 100-yard game

Throughout the entire 2019 offseason after the draft, the Bears were hyping up rookie running back David Montgomery. The Iowa State product was Chicago’s first selection of the draft proceedings as they did not own a first- or second-round pick this year. As such, everyone figured he would play a big role and have a monster impact on this Bears offense.

In Week 1, that was far from the case. Against the Packers, the 73rd overall pick had just six carries for 18 yards, even if he also added one reception for 27 yards. But after Matt Nagy spent all week leading into Week 2 talking about taking things slow with Montgomery, he then carried the ball 18 times against Denver for 62 yards and his first NFL touchdown.

While Montgomery’s per-carry average in Week 2 still wasn’t great, he was going against a strong Broncos run defense and found success. The Redskins, meanwhile, have not been effective in stopping the run, despite the high-profile defensive front that they possess. Through their first two games, they’ve conceded 168 yards on the ground per game.

It’s clear that Nagy is going to feed the rock to his rookie running back and he has the goods to make good on a big workload. Against this Redskins defense, the Bears youngster is going to go for his first 100-yard day of his career and really carry the Chicago offense on Monday Night Football.
