5. Cam Fleming has a career game

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to left tackle Tyron Smith. The bad news is that he won’t suit up for the Cowboys on Sunday when the team plays the Green Bay Packers. As for the good news, his high ankle sprain isn’t as severe as first believed meaning he won’t miss as many games as the team first expected him to.

With No. 77 out, Dallas will turn to Cameron Fleming, the veteran tackle who joined the team in 2018 to serve as their swing tackle. Fleming ended up starting three games last season and played well enough to convince the team to bring him back on a two-year deal — which was actually a rather hefty contract for a backup player.

The reason the Cowboys decided to fork out the cash for his services is because of his ability to hold down the position when called upon. Sure, he’s never going to be the All-Pro Smith is, but he also won’t allow Dak Prescott to get sacked six times in one game the way that Chaz Green and Byron Bell did in 2017.

Of course, there is some concern due to the way the Green Bay defense is playing right now. Free-agent additions Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith have been all over opposing quarterbacks. In our first bold prediction, Fleming will do his part in keeping the Packers edge rushers at bay. With the crowd on their side, he plays a career game and continues to prove he’s capable of doing some heavy lifting in place of Tyron Smith.
