7. Paddy Fisher, LB, Northwestern

Northwestern got embarrassed on Friday night when they faced off against Ohio State. Nevertheless, Paddy Fisher is still one of the best linebackers in college football. He made an impact the moment he stepped on the field as a freshman. Over the past two seasons, Fisher totaled 227 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. The 6-3, 245-pound linebacker puts fear in his opponents.

More from NFL Spin Zone

He’s a long rangy tackler who wraps up using his length and technique. When he hits, he comes with power, evidenced by his eight forced fumbles. Offensive guards fall victim to his length and ability to stack and shed. He keeps his eyes up and does a great job tracking the ball carrier. He’s not asked to blitz often but he does understand how to get skinny and exploit creases.

There isn’t much tape on him dropping into zone coverage or playing in man coverage, which hurts his draft stock. However, he does so many other things well that a good combine and pro day could send his stock soaring.

Fisher’s size, tenacity and downhill playing style, along with his length, remind me of Texans linebacker Benardrick McKinney. Fisher is flying under the radar as of now, as he appears to be a fourth-round prospect whose stock could rise. He has the potential to be a versatile linebacker that can play in any front.
