6. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton is a quarterback who has outlived his time in Carolina. The one-time Auburn great has been a magnet for injury and a magnet for criticism and a recent foot ailment isn’t helping his cause.

Then again, neither is Cam. Newton is that quarterback who was Patrick Mahomes before Mahomes was all over the flat screen. He was strong and dynamic,  made plays on the fly the way Lamar Jackson does and was Superman in Carolina Blue. Now, Newton is something of an imposter. He doesn’t scare defenses the way he once did and his reputation far exceeds production on the field.

That said, he offers some solutions for a team needing a quarterback. Newton has likely outlived his time in Carolina, but in a city like Chicago or Tennessee, he would be a welcome addition. For a player with some gas still in the tank, a new locale seems logical.

Newton still can win games. He’s a player that in the right situation can be a huge asset, but he is not the same player who exploded on the NFL scene fresh from Auburn. He needs the right situation, and most importantly, the right motivation.

Bottom-line, Cam Newton has outgrown his time with the Panthers, but not his time in the NFL. A new team and a time zone could do wonders for a player who not too long ago was the best player in the NFL.
