NFL Notebook Week 8: Midseason awards, Trade Deadline dud and more

College Football Corner
While I don’t watch as much Saturday football as I do on Sunday, I still have plenty to say about all the happenings in college football. Here are some quick thoughts.
- College sports could be changed forever with the new NCAA ruling
- My choice for the cover of a new NCAA Football video game: Justin Fields
- I know LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been cooking up a storm en route to a surprise Heisman campaign, but I’m not really wowed by anything he does. He’s ultra methodical and a great collegiate quarterback, but I’m unsure (for now) if he can be anything special in the NFL.
- I love this insane Bryan Edwards catch, but it’s time to stop comparing every one-handed catch to Odell Beckham Jr. Please, it’s been four years.
- I highlighted him last week in my Draft Spotlight, and man is Chase Young living up to it. I think Young has clearly established himself as the frontrunner for the best player in the NFL Draft.
- This awesome halftime show by the Ohio State band was better than last year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
- That was a very entertaining Oklahoma-Kansas State game. It will be extremely tough, probably even impossible, for Oklahoma to reach the CFB Playoff now.
- Minnesota is still undefeated, and head coach P.J. Fleck still needs to be poached by a bigger school. Michigan? Michigan State?
- I wonder how much time Mark Dantonio has left at Michigan State. 2016, 2018 and 2019 (so far) have been disappointments. Could he be on the way out soon?
- That TCU-Texas game was thrilling all the way until the end. While I could brag about how I picked TCU to win, I’m more focused on this tomfoolery. Five-second rule, I guess.
- By the way, I can’t tell if I love or despise these TCU uniforms. I will say they strangely remind me of laser tag… (Turns out the red resembles a horned frog’s ability to squirt blood out of its eyes when cornered by a predator…)
- I’ve never been a big Bo Nix fan, but this throw from the Auburn freshman quarterback while leaping out of bounds is bonkers.
- Heisman rankings: In some order, I’d like to see Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Justin Fields and Jonathan Taylor at the Heisman ceremony in December.
