15. Carolina Panthers (16)
An injury cost the Carolina Panthers an MVP player as Cam Newton has been sidelined the past six games of the season. However, with the 2015 NFL MVP out, they’ve seen another star emerge as a possible candidate for the league’s most coveted award. Running back Christian McCaffrey has been a monster all season and continued to add to his impressive resume.
His performance in Week 9 was the biggest reason they got the win and moved to 5-3 on the season. With reports coming that the team may not be able to get Newton back anytime soon, McCaffrey showed that he can still carry the team. Facing a stout Tennessee defense, ‘Run CMC’ went for 146 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns and added another 20 yards and a score on three catches.
The ability he has to affect the game as both a running back and receiver puts his head and shoulders above any other running back this season. They’re still a couple of games behind the Saints in their division and find themselves in a tough battle for one of the wild card spots. That’s pretty impressive considering they started out 0-2 this season — and it’s a testament to the mental toughness they have.
