Chicago Bears: 5 Players who must shine vs. Giants in Week 12
David Montgomery, Running Back
The Chicago Bears’ running game hasn’t been as good as they expected. Rookie David Montgomery has a tough time finding space along the line. He’s on pace to amass 795 yards and eight touchdowns.

The running game’s inability to grab big chunks of yards consistently is part of the reason the Bears’ offense has its troubles. Without an effective running game, the passing game suffers.
The Giants could be the antidote for the struggles. Their defense ranks 23rd in rushing yards allowed and 29th in rushing touchdowns allowed. They have four key defensive players on injured reserve so that makes life difficult for the defensive coordinator.
Despite having a difficult season, you can see Montgomery’s talent. He’s been running into walls of humanity in every game. Even so, he’s dragging multiple defenders with him before going down. He’s also done a good job of breaking tackles. He ranks 11th in broken tackles with 16 (Nick Chubb leads the NFL with 22).
If Montgomery has a big game it takes some pressure from Trubisky. A good running game opens up lanes for the receivers. Trubisky will have more open receivers to look for and have a better chance of making big plays.
