5. Matt Patricia

Will the Detroit Lions give Matt Patricia the benefit of the doubt for the 2019 season when looking at the injuries he’s been dealing with at quarterback, highlighted by Matthew Stafford?

More from NFL Spin Zone

Unfortunately, this may not be enough to save Patricia since some of these struggles were taking place way before Stafford started even dealing with back issues.

Before the 2018 season, Detroit hired Patricia with the hope his previous defensive success with the New England Patriots would end up working wonders to help turn the Lions around.

At the beginning of this year, Detroit seemed like they were heading towards becoming a sleeper contender in the NFC before it all went downhill with only one win over their last 11 games.

Yes, the injury factor could very well save Patricia’s job since it would be easy to understand why the Lions would want to give him another shot, but also what if he’s the one holding the team back?

As bad as it sounds, a fresh start for both Patricia and the Lions could end up being best for both parties since Detroit has plenty of areas in need of improvement once the offseason officially begins in just a few short weeks.
