Round  2: Marvin Wilson, DT, FSU

The defensive line has been given a lot of attention in recent seasons for Dallas as they have made several moves. One was the drafting of Randy Gregory in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Another was selecting Taco Charlton in the first round of the 2017 draft.

Dallas has also made trades for Robert Quinn (mostly due to Gregory’s continued suspension and Charlton’s inability to win a job) and Michael Bennett. This comes during the same season that saw them sign DeMarcus Lawrence to a five-year, $105 million contract. And they also used a second-round draft pick on Trysten Hill.

The problem is, outside of Hill who hasn’t made an impact, those are all defensive ends. Dallas has really ignored the defensive tackle position, relying on third-round pick Maliek Collins and a bunch of undrafted pieces to man the middle. Unsurprisingly, the Cowboys have been beaten up in the middle at the worst possible times.

In this mock draft, they begin to address that error as they take Marvin Wilson out of FSU. Listed at 6-5 and 311 pounds, Wilson is big enough to fill the nose tackle role and if Hill does pan out — or if they can re-sign Collins — this could be the making of a good defensive line.

Some will say Wilson is too high here due to the fact that he offers little on third down, but Dallas has third-down players. They need more guys who can get the defense into those third-and-long situations.
