Stanford. Paulson Adebo. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. . 5. player. 871

The Chicago Bears have historically had strong, physical defenders. They had that in 2018 as they did a great job of separating the ball from the offensive opponents’ hands. This season things were different. There weren’t as many turnovers.

In 2018, the Bears defense had eight games in which they forced three or more turnovers. In 2019, that number went down to just two, one against a horrible Washington defense and the other in the final games against the Minnesota Vikings’ backups.

Additionally, there were way too many missed tackles in 2019. Just look at the game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15. The Bears defense turned short gains into big yards that ultimately resulted in easy touchdowns.

Paulson Adebo could help with that. He is a physical player who loves contact and provides great run support. He is a two-year starter and in that time he had eight interceptions and 27 passes defended.

Adebo doesn’t get a lot of the attention that other cornerbacks do but he holds his own when tested. Being a two-year starter he is still learning the nuances of the position. However, he does a good job on short to medium passes. He analyzes the play quickly and jumps the routes to knock the pass away or grab an interception.

Adebo doesn’t have elite long speed so he sometimes gets beat deep. He prefers to be in soft press coverage as it helps him make up for his lack of speed.

If the Bears look at Shelley to be the starter or if they go with someone else through free agency, Adebo provides good depth on the position. He can play well on the outside or even in the slot.
