Dallas Cowboys coaching candidates: 7 Best head coach options after Jason Garrett
6. Robert Saleh
Current Position: 49ers defensive coordinator
For the most part, you’re going to see many offensive-minded head coaching candidates mentioned in connection with the Dallas Cowboys. The reason, of course, is that this team has a boatload of offensive potential that was seemingly stifled by Jason Garrett. Now, the team should want to course-correct.
However, if the Cowboys wanted to get more creative, they could look to poach a young offensive mind to be their OC (or maybe retain Kellen Moore and give him more control) and hire current 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to be their next head coach.

Not only has Saleh turned the San Francisco defense into one of the league’s most dangerous units — something possible for a young, talented Dallas defense — but he’s also famed for his fiery demeanor and ability to motivate. That would be a welcomed change for the Cowboys at the head coaching spot and something that, with the right hires around him, could make big waves.
5. Urban Meyer
Current Position: FOX college analyst, former Ohio State head coach
It feels as if Dallas fans land all over the spectrum in regards to how they feel about the prospect of Urban Meyer coaching this team. After all, the franchise has enjoyed immense success previously from grabbing a big-name college guy and bringing him in. And Meyer undoubtedly fits that bill.
The Cowboys’ interest in the highly successful college head coach is not unreasonable. While that may be true, I fall on the lower end of the spectrum into how attractive of a hire the former Ohio State and Utah head coach would be for America’s Team.
While Meyer proved himself a creative offensive mind, we have no evidence that his stylings will work in the NFL. Furthermore, it’s not totally a coincidence that Ohio State actually got better as Ryan Day took over the Buckeyes in 2019. So, while no one should be unhappy if Meyer ends up being the guy, there are better options out there.
