Ranking every NFL head coaching hire for 2020 season

4. Ron Rivera, Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins wasted little time in hiring Ron Rivera once the offseason officially got underway since they were the first team to fire their previous head coach in 2019 after moving on from Jay Gruden following a poor start.
Football fans can say what they want about the way things ended up with Rivera and the Carolina Panthers since the team turned out to be a major disappointment over the last two seasons, but also a fresh start with the Redskins seems like exactly what the head coach needs.
Keep in mind all of the previous work Rivera did in Carolina prior to 2018 with the defense looking like a top unit at times, and there are plenty of reasons for Washington to see similar results moving forward, although there is still plenty of work to do.
Plus, with the Redskins hoping to see the early experience by Dwayne Haskins as a rookie pay off in the long run, if Rivera can help bring out the best in the former Ohio State star similar to what he did with Cam Newton during his prime years, this could work wonders for Washington.
Even if three teams from the NFC East found new head coaches this offseason, the division is expected to be very competitive during the 2020 season, especially with some of the offensive fire power.
In other words, the best chance of Rivera and the Redskins competing could come down to having a solid defense, which adds to the list of reasoning behind this being a solid hire.
