5. Chester Rogers (26)

When free agency begins on March 18th, many teams, the Chicago Bears among them, will try to find some of the big names to improve their roster. Most of the time, teams will overpay to get that talent. If it helps them win, they’ll be happy to do so.

After that wave of signings, however, there are some players who could also help but come with bargain prices. Chester Rogers could be one of them.

Rogers was an undrafted rookie in 2016. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts and played in 53 games for them. He hasn’t been an extraordinary player but he’s been a solid backup. He does have 22 starts, though. His best season was in 2018 when he had 53 catches for 485 yards and two touchdowns.

Rogers isn’t a receiver who will break open big plays. He is, however, proficient as a possession receiver. He’s had 44 first down catches in the last two seasons. You can depend on him to make catches to keep the drive going. This is something the Chicago Bears lacked in 2019.

Rogers also had a very good playoff game in his first appearance in 2018. He had 11 targets and caught nine passes for 76 yards. He didn’t have any touchdowns but five of his catches resulted in first downs.

The Bears could use a receiver like Rogers. He helps keep drives going, giving the more well-known players more opportunities to make big plays. Also, the Bears don’t have to pay a lot of money for him and can concentrate on filling other, more pressing needs.
