2020 NFL Draft: 5 Best landing spots for Isaiah Simmons
3. Cleveland Browns
First Round Picks in 2020 NFL Draft: No. 10
We saw the Cleveland Browns really address the linebacker position in the middle rounds of the draft last offseason. Taking Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki, they clearly recognized the depth they needed at the position and were aggressive in trying to shore it up. But as Joe Schobert, who has been a phenomenal asset for the Browns at MIKE linebacker over the past few years, is set to hit free agency, they could be looking to take another big shot at the position once again.
Isaiah Simmons would be a fantastic addition to the Browns defense at linebacker and, really, overall. The Clemson product would enter the fray and, if Cleveland were to lose Schobert on the open market, immediately eliminate concerns at the position. But more than that, Simmons would offer the flexibility to move him back into a hybrid safety role at times to address a need at that position as well while letting Wilson and Takitaki take over alongside Christian Kirksey.
The simple fact of the matter is that it would be surprising — at least by my estimation — if the Browns were to take anything other than an offensive tackle with the No. 10 pick. With the way that guys like Mekhi Becton and Tristan Wirfs tested at the NFL Combine and the need to get this offense back on track, that seems obvious. But if they want to throw everyone a huge curveball, Simmons would be a heck of a way to do exactly that and retool the defense.
