2020 NFL Draft: 5 Best landing spots for Tristan Wirfs
By Joe Kipp
5. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins traded away their franchise left tackle in Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans before the start of the 2019 season in an effort to build draft capital to aid in a rebuild. Miami received two first-round picks for Tunsil and holds three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft (No. 5, No. 18 and No. 26 overall).

The Dolphins also allowed former starting right tackle Ja’Wuan James to sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency last offseason. Because of these two moves, the Dolphins are in desperate need of a starting caliber tackle on either side. Tristan Wirfs makes perfect sense as a potential fit.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Dolphins had the worst offensive line in the league during the 2019 regular season. The Dolphins are rumored to be interested in taking a quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick, but it could be hard to turn down Wirfs if the quarterback they want isn’t there.
The Dolphins employ a heavy zone-blocking scheme, which suits Wirfs’ skill-set as an athletic road grater. During his playing days at Iowa, Wirfs displayed incredible power in Kirk Ferentz’s run-heavy, pro-style offense. It’s unlikely the Dolphins would use the No. 5 pick on Wirfs, and he probably won’t fall to No. 18, either.
In that case, Miami may have to trade up to get him, but it’d be worth it.
