His numbers at wide receiver were also quite impressive, coming up with 38 receptions for 735 yards and eight touchdowns. Despite that but also speaking to his versatility, Gibson’s best position in the NFL might be as a running back.
The 6-0, 228-pounder showed on film he has great contact balance thanks to his wide base. He’s a one-cut runner with good change of direction skills. His first step is great and once he hits the open field, he’s a threat to score. At the 2020 Senior Bowl, he carried the ball 11 times for 68 yards, showing off his power, quickness, and improved vision.
Think of Gibson as a poor man’s Christian McCaffrey with 4.3 speed. With the right team, he’s capable of playing the slot or split out wide and win his matchup. Gibson deserves more hype than he’s getting and his combine performance he’ll likely get it. Gibson’s film tells the tale of a Day 2 or early Day 3 prospect with starter potential as running back.
