3. Lane Taylor

One of the biggest question marks that the Green Bay Packers face in the 2020 offseason, particularly in free agency, is what to do with right tackle Brian Bulaga. When on the field, the 2010 first-round pick out of Iowa has been phenomenal. However, the soon-to-be 31-year-old offensive lineman has shown some signs of his age in recent years with injuries, though he played 16 games in 2019.

But while Green Bay figures out if they are going to retain the veteran tackle or try to find a replacement, they could also look to shake up things on the interior. When on the field, Lane Taylor has been a decent player at guard but, in the 2019 season, he was only on the field for two games. And in his absence, a breakout star emerged.

Rookie interior lineman Elgton Jenkins took over at guard in his first season and never looked back. In fact, you could make the argument that he was the Packers’ second-best offensive lineman on the roster behind perennial Pro Bowler David Bakhtiari. And now, with the potential to save over $4 million by cutting him, Taylor could be considered expendable.

Granted, you could make the argument that a healthy Taylor is a better player than Billy Turner, who had his share of ups and downs in 2019. While that may be true, Taylor is the one with the contract that Green Bay can get out of easily. And when business decisions need to be made, that could be the factor that determines Taylor’s fate for the 2020 season.
