Dallas Cowboys: 3 Free agents that could fix the offseason

3. Reshad Jones, Safety
The Cowboys might have lost Byron Jones to the Miami Dolphins, but that doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from the signing. In fact, there are two ways they can make lemonade out of this one.

First is simply by hoping Jones excels with the Dolphins. If he does, they could end up with a compensatory pick next season. The second is by getting a player from Miami who was released ahead of their massive spending spree which included signing Jones and several others.
That player was safety Reshad Jones who spent the past 10 seasons with the Dolphins and made two Pro Bowls during that span. In his 128 games with Miami, Jones had 776 tackles. 21 interceptions, four defensive touchdowns, and 10.5 sacks. He was constantly all over the field but missed 12 games last season which likely played a part in his release.
Even with the missed time, and the fact that he’s 32years old, Jones would be a great fit for Dallas. He would not only be an upgrade over Jeff Heath — who signed with the Raiders — but he could also serve as a veteran leader to a very young secondary. And for anyone who scoffs at that, look at what Richard Sherman did for his teammates in San Francisco.
And as an added benefit, any player who was released by his previous team doesn’t figure into the comp pick formula, which is a trend with the three players on this list. That means Jones won’t keep Dallas from getting picks in return for their lost free agents.
