5. Collin Johnson, WR, Texas

Just because Minnesota opted to trade away one of their top wide receivers on the heels of a playoff run doesn’t mean they should rush to replace him in the 2020 NFL Draft.

For the Vikings in this draft class, waiting isn’t a problem. The Vikings run an offense that can benefit from a big-bodied wide receiver. In the 2020 class, there’s not a receiver bigger than the 6-6, 222-pound Collin Johnson out of Texas.

The former Longhorns wideout is tailor-made for Gary Kubiak’s offense. Although he’s raw in some areas, he’s a plug-and-play boundary receiver in year one. At the Senior Bowl, the former Texas wideout showed he’s more than just a big body. He dominated during practice, showing he’s quicker and more flexible than he was given credit for. Johnson was able to sink his hips in and out of breaks and showed some ability to separate underneath.

Johnson can win down the field on deep posts and go routes. He doesn’t win with speed; he wins with excellent body control, length, and timing. He’d give Cousins a target with an excellent catch radius thanks to his wingspan, leaping ability and physicality at the top of routes.

Late Day 2 or early Day 3 is a possibility for Johnson to come off the board. Other Day 3 prospects with similar size and skills are Tennessee’s Jauan Jennings and Oregon’s Juwan Johnson.
